REPOTTING CONTAINER PLANTS

When a plant stops growing or roots fill the pot, a houseplant may need to be shifted to a larger size pot. Pick out a container that will allow about one inch of new soil mix on all sides.

The type of pot is not critical, plastic, clay or ceramic will do. A drain hole is very important.

For Planters with drainage holes

If you are going to use gravel in bottom of pot, adda1 to 11/2" of ground gravel, not crushed rock. (Optional)

Add potting soil (Sunshine All Purpose) so the plant will be at same level as before.

Firm soil with fingers.

Water well and let drain.

For Planters without drainage holes

You must be very careful of over-watering if you do not have drainage holes.

Plant can be placed in a pot with drainage then inside the pot withoug drainage holes. Check regularly to see that water does not stand in bottom.

SOIL: All Purpose Sunshine Mix or similar soil is best for most house plants. Send or perlite can be added to Sunshine All Purpose Potting Mix to increase drainage for plants like cactus and succulents.

Be sure soil level remains one-half to one inch below top of new container to aid ease of watering.

Water well with Peters Soluable Fertilizer for the next several waterings.
