HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR LIVE CHRISTMAS TREE

AFTER PURCHASE

Before you move the tree inside, keep it outdoors in a shady spot out of the wind. A porch or patio usually a good spot. Water with 2 or 3 gallons of water every other day.

Choose the coolest spot available. Close off the closest heat vent. Place the pot in a large plastic saucer, piazza pan or something to keep the moisture off the floor.

If balled with burlap keep the root ball moist by placing in a container such as a tub, large pot, etc. Use a plastic saucer to keep the water off your floor. Don't let water stand around root ball.

Keep lights to a minimum. (Use mini-lights.)

Water as needed. Two quarts poured slowly on the root ball every other day is about right. A large tree may need water every day.

Keep in heated house 10 days maximum time.

Selection of tree can be made early and left at nursery or left outside or in unheated place at your home until 10 days before Christmas.

AFTER CHRISTMAS

Remove tree from heated house as soon as possible to an unheated area. If weather is above 30 degrees at night you can place it outside or go ahead and plant it. Your tree needs to be acclimated for 48 hours in a cool area before planting if the weather is very cold.

Remove from pot and plant at same depth or slightly higher. If burlap is on the root ball, leave intact. Water well after planting even if temperature is cold. Water root ball and foliage twice a month when temperature is above freezing.

Fertilize with FERTILOME TREE AND SHRUB FOOD in March.
